We celebrated the third Saturday in March with dancing!

On Saturday, 15 March 2025, the annual Faculty of Science Ball took place at Semilasso in Brno. Around 350 guests met on the dance floor, and thanks to the rich programme prepared by the Society of Natural Scientists and the Faculty of Science of MU there was certainly no shortage of entertainment.

CzecHopes - the largest Czech conference for high school students, held at the Bohunice University Campus

On the 6th and 7^th of February, the CzecHopes conference, held at the Bohunice University campus, featured a series of workshops and lectures covering not only the natural sciences but also medicine, economics, business and soft skills.

Exhibition for the 20th Anniversary of the Chemistry and Materials Technology for Conservation-Restoration Study Programme

In 2025, the Institute of Chemistry at SCI MUNI commemorates 20 years since the establishment of the unique study programme Chemistry and Materials Technology for Conservation-Restoration. To mark this occasion, an interesting poster exhibition has been set up at the University Campus Bohunice.

IT Equipment loan for students in need

The Faculty of Science has been provided with 14 laptops, 25 tablets, 22 graphics tablets, 9 headphones with a microphone and webcams with a microphone from a MU project to support online education. Offered IT equipment is intended for students in need and will be provided as a loan.

I am still surprised how similar principles govern science and business, says Jan Zukal, the new Director of SCI MUNI’s Department of Botany and Zoology

Jan Zukal graduated in Systematic Biology and Ecology at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science, where he habilitated in 2016 and now lectures on animal behaviour. He has been employed at the Czech Academy of Sciences’ (CAS) Institute of Vertebrate Biology since 1991, where he undertakes research on bats, concentrating on their flight activity, hibernation and bat-associated pathogens.

Entropy matters! Czech research advances materials development

A team of scientists from the Czech Academy of Sciences and Faculty of Science at Masaryk University has made a major contribution to research into the accumulation of impurities at the interface between crystals, a phenomenon having caused e.g. a series of accidents at nuclear power stations in the UK in the 1960s. The study, published in the prestigious journal Progress in Materials Science, furthers the development of more resistant alloys or new technological processes for their production.
