Czech-Slovak team of students from Masaryk University and Brno University of Technology managed in record time to raise funds for the registration fee and will participate at the end of October in the prestigious global competition iGEM Grand Jamboree in Paris.
At Masaryk University comes already the sixteenth ERC grant. Support of the European Research Council (ERC) for establishing own research group obtained Tomáš Fiala, who will from October work at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science, MU.
Fifty-seven years ago, on 21 August 1968, Czechoslovakia was occupied by the armies of five Warsaw Pact countries led by the Soviet Union. The invasion put an end to free debate at universities and crushed hopes of a more open society.
Starting this September, PhD students in the Czech Republic will see a major change — they will be legally entitled to a minimum income amounting to at least 1.2 times the minimum wage.
