This project highlights the critical importance of addressing the impact of climate change on ecosystems, focusing specifically on ombrotrophic peatlands - bogs. It emphasizes the urgent need for conservation and restoration efforts to mitigate carbon emissions and preserve biodiversity, as various researchers and organizations outlined. The proposal suggests using Ecological Niche Modeling (ENM) to predict future shifts in bog distribution under different climate change scenarios, acknowledging the limitations of current ENM approaches and proposing innovative solutions to enhance prediction accuracy. Historical climate data and hierarchical modelling are suggested to address these limitations effectively. The project aims to provide accessible forecasts of habitat loss and shifts in distribution through user-friendly web applications, enabling informed decision-making for bog protection and restoration efforts. The proposal demonstrates a comprehensive approach to addressing climate change's challenges on bog ecosystems.
