The aim of this project is to develop a functional electrochromic device with an active area of 2 × 2 cm, designed to achieve a maximum contrast in optical transmittance between the bleached and colored states, while maintaining minimal switching time. The device will be engineered to operate with lithium or hydrogen ions, enabling broader application potential across different environments and use cases.
All functional layers will be fabricated using magnetron sputtering, a low-temperature, scalable deposition technique that allows precise control over film thickness, composition, and microstructure. This approach is particularly suitable for temperature-sensitive substrates, such as those used in automotive headlamp systems, which represent the primary application focus of the project.
In addition to material and device development, the project will critically assess the practical limitations and long-term viability of technologies based on lithium and hydrogen ion intercalation. This includes evaluating their stability, compatibility with industrial processes, and environmental impact, with the goal of identifying the most promising pathways for future commercialization.
